Sacred Initiations
Sacred Initiations began in 2022 with a vision in a plant medicine ceremony. It sparked in my psyche like a bolt of lightning, and I was shown it would be the first of twelve large-scale paintings. One by one, the rest found their way to me through ceremony, meditation & dreams, each carrying an initiation I was moving through in my own healing. At the heart of the series is the sacred feminine. I paint as a shamanic practice, and every original is blessed with tobacco, sage, copal & rose before it leaves my studio.

Meet Dana
I’m a visionary oil painter, and my work lives where realism meets the spiritual. Most of my paintings begin as visions that come through in ceremony and meditation, and many of them depict women in the midst of initiation and healing. I’ve come to understand painting as a shamanic practice, a way of walking into the dark and illuminating what’s been hidden… a creative ceremony.
I grew up in a log cabin in the Eastern Sierras, where my grandmother trained me and I spent my afternoons painting in my mother’s art shop. I’ve painted in oil since I was twelve, and now I create from my studio just outside of Austin, Texas.
